Carpet cleaning with children and pets: what should you ask?
Practical questions about products, access and aftercare for a busy family home.

The short answer
For a home with children or pets, discuss the products, application instructions, access arrangements and drying guidance before cleaning. Labels such as pet friendly, child safe or environmentally friendly need specific evidence and conditions; they are not a guarantee of zero risk.
Make your household part of the enquiry
Tell Ultra Clean if young children play on the carpet, a pet sleeps on the sofa, or someone has a fragrance sensitivity. Mention those needs when you first enquire so they can be considered before a visit. A photograph of the item and a short explanation of how the room is used are helpful starting points.
Ask which products are proposed and whether a scented finishing treatment is optional. If a particular ingredient or fragrance matters to you, ask about that specific concern. A reassuring marketing phrase cannot replace the information for the actual product and its intended use.
Understand pet-friendly and child-safe claims
Pet-friendly cleaning solutions and child-safe cleaning solutions are common search terms, but the wording alone does not specify dilution, contact restrictions or aftercare. Discuss when people and animals should return to the area and follow the instructions provided for the job.
Plan a separate space for pets and children during work. Keep toys, feeding bowls and pet bedding away from the working area. Tell us in advance if keeping a room or access route separate will be difficult, so the practical arrangements can be discussed.
Ask what environmentally friendly means
An environmental claim should identify the product or practice it refers to. For example, the EPA’s Safer Choice programme evaluates products against its own criteria; that does not establish that an unlisted product or a cleaning business is certified. Ultra Clean does not claim that certification here.
Useful questions include whether a solution suits the material, how its instructions are followed and whether a particular certification applies to that exact product. This page does not claim Ultra Clean uses an entirely certified, non-toxic or chemical-free product range. Ask us to discuss the products for your clean.
Think about the return to normal use
Arrange the work for a time when the area can be kept clear and allowed to dry as advised. Before you book, explain whether a child needs the room for bedtime or a pet normally has access throughout the house. Those constraints belong in the plan, not in a last-minute conversation at the door.
Cleaning can address soil and particular concerns on suitable materials, but it is not a medical treatment or a promise to remove every allergen. Describe the cleaning result you need and any sensitivities so we can give an informed answer about the proposed visit.
Common questions
Can I request a discussion about fragrances before cleaning?
Yes. Mention fragrance sensitivities or preferences in your enquiry and ask about proposed products and optional finishing treatments before agreeing the work.
Does environmentally friendly mean chemical free?
No. Ask what the claim refers to and what evidence supports it for the specific product or practice. This guide does not claim a chemical-free or universally risk-free clean.
Talk to us about your clean
Send your postcode, photographs and any care-label information. Tell us what happened and which products have already been used so we can discuss the next step.
